Year 2008

Dearest Leaders,

As the year draws to a close, I would like to wish all members of the HLC a very fruitful and happy new year ahead.

In my opinion, the HLC was setup primarily for two reasons. First to provide a platform for all leaders of the school to gather together to learn more about leadership. Lastly to provide the opportunity for them to apply what they have learnt in practical situations to improve the state of the school.

The new year will be an exciting one for the council and whether it will be sucessful or just a 'passing shower' is all up to YOU.

I leave you with a phrase from Gandhi I heard over radio today

'Be the change you want to see in the World'

Happy New Year and may you excel in all that you do.

Edwin

GAMES

Rearranging Game

For the first 3 rounds, the class will be split into 2 groups of 20 students each. Then, they are told to form one straight line.
Without talking, they have to arrange themselves according to the criteria listed below.
We shall play criteria 1 -3 with the group of 20 students. Criteria 4 – 6 shall be played as one whole class. Class facils need to ensure that they are playing the right criteria with the right number of people
According to:
Birthday
Alphabetical order
Shoe Size
Floor the person lives at
Number of family members(include maid)
Number of characters in name
A card with all the criteria will be given to the class facils so that they would know what is being played at that time

Letter Scrabble

This game is played similar to the one that was played during the leadership camp where cards with letters on them were thrown around and we were to find other people and form words with their cards.
Class facils are to help to throw the cards
This game is played with all the classes in the hall at that moment
Time limit would be 2 minutes
Forfeit for those who form words that are funny: Spell that word out with their butts
Forfeit for those who are still standing: Spell I LOVE HS with their butts
Only one or two people shall be called upon to do the forfeit

Longest Line

· Longest line shall be played in 2 rounds. Points shall be awarded for this game
· 30 points for 1st, 20 points for 2nd, 10 points for the 3rd and 4th
· The first round is the fastest line where students will have to use their shoes only and form a line as long as possible in 1 minute
· The second round is played where students can use anything they want (shoes, socks, spectacles…) to form a line as long as possible in 2 minutes
· For the entire game, wallets, handphones and using own bodies to form the line is NOT ALLOWED

Advanced Stargate

· Each class will have to form one big line. Game is similar to Stargate but the difference is that the hula-hoop does not need to stop moving through the line when it touches someone
· Each class will start at 500 points, each time they touch the stargate, they will lose 10 points.
· Class facils need to help to facilitate the strategy as well as to help identify the 2 stargate troopers from each class
· During the game, the class facils will need to observe the number of points lost and the final score shall be added on to the previous game

Sec 1 Registration/Orientation

The new Hougean is coming to school on 21 Dec 07 to register. The prefects are tasked to help in the movement and administrative on that day. Synergy the company involved in next year orientation will be coming to take the t-shirt size of the students. I feel it will be a good opportunity for the leaders to help out at the counter and start to let the new member of our Hougean family feel welcome. I also need to discuss about the Sec 1 orientation program next week. Can the Exco liaise and let me know by 18 Dec 07. Thanks
