Dearest Leaders,
From my previous post
Leaders, especially the ICs kindly think through the W5H as you plan and organise the investiture or any other events.
Who
Who am i gonna get/alloacted to help me in my event?
Who is in charge of what?
Who is doing what?
Who is doing the monitoring?
What
What are the duties and responsibilities of each leaders?
What are the equipment require for the event?
What are the things that can possible go wrong?
What is missing, needed, necessary for the event to be a success?
What is the plan if it rain?
When
When is the dateline i need to get the things ready?
When is the rehearsal?
When is the individual event gonna start and end?
Where
Where is the event organised?
Where do we place our equipment?
Why
Why are we doing all this?
Why is it important to stick to the dateline?
Why it happen or need to change?
How
How long is each event?
How to I get enough people to help?
How can I ensure my part of the job is completed?
How can i improve on my part of the job?
These are just SOME of the MANY questions that you should be thinking through when you organise anything. Do not wait till it's too late and "explain" why things are not done. Think and plan it through. ENLIST OTHERS TO HELP if you cannot cope.

"When things go wrong as they sometimes will When the road you're trudging seems all up hill. When funds are low and the debts are high. And you want to smile, but you have to sigh. When care is pressing you down a bit. Rest, if you must, but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns. As everyone of us sometimes learns. And many a failure turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out:Don't give up though the pace seems slow - You may succeed with another blow. Success is failure turned inside out - The silver tint of the clouds of doubt. And you never can tell how close you are. It may be near when it seems so far: So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit It's when things seem worst that you must not QUIT.
REMEMBER THIS ONCE A HLC ALWAYS A HLC even if u guys intent to leave this council it will always be there and also to support and assist u,it will always be there whenever u needed it :)
THE CHALLENGE:
we as leaders must take up our challenge and face it no matter how difficult it is from what we learn from most of the camp. For me i treat challenge as a obstacles and also a stepping stone ahead no matter how difficult it is ...just try the challenge u will never know what result you are going to get and also you might have learn a lot from your mistakes and also moving forward to be a great leader.
Let others lead small lives, but not you. Let others argue over small things, but not you. Let others cry over small hurts, but not you. Let others leave their future in someone else's hands, but not you. Jim Rohn "Success is a journey, not a destination." If you care at all, you'll get some results. If you care enough, you'll get incredible results. trust me treat all of this as a learning journey for the new batch of HLC if you are really committed you will really have a successful council and i believe everyone could do it including the teachers and alumni :) lets move on to a successful council :)

A SHORT POST TO THOSE WHO WENT FOR LOOLA 08'
Dear leaders,
Firstly, I just want to acknowledge everyone for making the choice for attending this year's HLC Camp. I trust that all of you have learnt more about yourself and also about the people around you. Even as we end the camp, i hope that everyone of you will remember what you have learnt throughout these 4 days in loola. Remember the values that you have learnt and apply it into your daily lives. Remember about how your honest feedback can help others. Keep reminding yourself that you can be great leaders. Demand greatness from yourself and from the people around you and inspire them to be great leader too.
Secondly i want to encourage all of you to be part of the HLC. Take this opportunity to grow and be great leaders. Take the next step towards greatness. Ultimately, it's your CHOICE. Whatever choices you make, be aware of why you are choosing it.
And Lastly, i want to thank all the teachers and facils who went through these 4 days with everyone of us. Thank you for taking the time to be with us.
Continue to lead, continue to learn and continue to inspire others.
Enjoy your holidays! :)

Thank you.
Dearest Leaders,
Firstly I would like to thank the pioneer batch of HLC members for all your contributions for the past year. Just submitted the report for our school magazine and realise how much activities we participated in. From the beginning of the year till the end we were involved in one way or another. Thank you again for all your efforts in helping to make the school a better place for all.
As we learn from our experience this year, I'm sure we can continue and improve the school in our little ways. We are going through a renewal process to bring in more to our family but we will not forget you ..the pioneers.
As you embark on your next phase of your education, I am in the process of making a small parting gift for the pioneer batch of HLC members - A small dvd collection of photo/videos taken for the past year. Lastly I thank you all again for sticking with me in this journey and for those who decided to pursue your other interests I thank you and all the best for your future endeavours.

Loola 08 ( 4th ~ 7th November)
Dear Leaders
There will be a briefing for the above-mentioned trip on 18 October 08 at 9am in the AVA room
1) If your parents are unsure whether to let you go, you can get them along for the briefing.
2) Those HLC members who have yet to get the consent form please see me next week.
3) This trip is FULLY SUBSIDED.
I received feedbacks from some of our existing members that some of you are not going. I managed to secure fundings for this trip doesn't mean that we can have the same priviledge next year. I have 40 vacancies for this trip.
Other than using it to equip you with further leadership skills it also serve as a BONDING session to prepare for our first major event next year which is the SEC 1 ORIENTATION. I do intend to take it up and organise the WHOLE event BUT if the responses for the camp is luke-warm then I will not volunteer our services becaue i cannot guarentee that the event will be a success if our leaders are not committed to the cause. Do let me know next week. Thanks

Wuxi, Cheers, TD, YC and Japan?
Dearest Leaders
As we approaches to the end of the year activities are coming THICK and FAST. Just send off some of our leaders to host our guests from Vietnam and we have another group coming in on Monday. 20 Wuxi students will be attached to the school from 3rd to 8th August. Our roles this time is to prepare 2 items. 1st is 1 hour of team bonding games in the AVA room. 2nd is a 30min tour of the school which is quite similar to what we did for the Sec 1 Orientation. I already have enough leaders for this event.
2) Cheering competition
The Cheering competition preliminary is on this coming Monday. It is open to all Sec 1 to 3 classes. Need people to help on Monday and on National day itself which is the final. Interested party please see me this Saturday at 11am in the school.
3) Teachers' Day
The HLC on the whole need to prepare teachers' day gift for all teachers. Last year the Prefects did a photo frame for all. Need you to brainstorm and start the prep. Sec 3 EXCOs please coordinate.
4) Youth Corner
The youth corner is almost up and just receive info that there are "exciting" things to be purchase for it. Once it done up need a schedule for HLC to 'jaga' it.
5) 3 month tour of Japan
The school has ask me to look into sending ONE student leader to Japan for 3 months starting 1 October to 31st December. Partly sponsored by school. Interested leader let me know by next Tuesday so that we can interview you.
There are many things and events on to develop your Leadership, it whether you want to step forth and learn.

Words of Thanks
Dearest Leaders and Prefects
Firstly I would like to show my appreciation to you for celebrating my birthday today. I am very touched by all your wonderful gestures. Do not spend unnecessary money the next time (if there is one :)) because what I like most is the two beautiful A3 Birthday cards with birthday greetings and word of thanks. In fact the only present I remember from last year was the little handmade book with all the birthday greeting from my prefects. :)
It has not been an easy journey personally for me this year. Mrs Goh (unfortunately she left to take up another post) and myself came out with the organizing structure and through your online votes the EXCOs. We believe then that with this, the EXCOs can lead the rest of the council in our mission to make the school better for all. We did start the year with a bang during the sec 1 orientation and we receive great review for our works. After that the leaders was allocated events to assist the teachers to plan like Chinese New Year, Total Defence Day, International Friendship Day etc.
Much was expected from the HLC even though it was only established in November last year. In May I did a review and at that time I feel that it failed to reach it’s potential. Being leaders you have many opportunities to influence through your CCA to help the school but have we been doing it? Have we model the way for people to follow? Have we enlist other to act in our shared vision of a better school for all? Call me old fashion but I was brought up the Scouting way in which one of the Scout Law is to be discipline and considerate. At times I fail to see that in some of you even my own Scout. As Leaders you are always in the limelight so please be more aware of yourself and your surrounding when you do things because you are also projecting an image of the Board/Council. Frankly I also felt the council is way too passive and is waiting for the school to instruct you to do things.
However there are light at the end of the tunnel and we must continue to strive and make it happen. You had done an excellent job in both the hosting events of the foreign students and had been wonderful ambassador for the school. If you talk about outcomes, I thought the Sec 1 orientation and your hosting of the foreign students are examples of success of the HLC. Let us build on this small success and continue this journey together. We still have 2 more hosting, the cheering competition, our Youth corner and the year end camp to look forward too.
A new organization structure will be out to us move us forward. I have gathered some suggestions from the sec 2s that went on the Student Leaders Exchange program which we can implement in out council/board.
Well enough of nagging from the old teacher. Lastly I would like to thank all of you again for today. Really appreciated because you have made me feel the journey ahead is worthwhile. My wish is that the Board and the Council can work hand in hand for the betterment of HS and all the best for your CA and Prelim.

Last Minutes Pullout
Dear Leaders
This is to inform that you still have to pay for the camp fees IF you inform me at the last minute that you cannot attend for any reasons. Please bear in mind it almost impossible to find a replacement on the weekend before the camp. If you had no intention or if you know you have other more important committment you should have inform me EARLIER.
As in the real world when you book something and decided not to have it in the last minute there are definitely penalties involved. I will try to negotiate with the camp vendor BUT if they refused (it too late for them to change) then you will pay. The camp fees will be deducted through your edusave as those who attend.

The other half of you.
Howdy all Hougean Leaders! :)
Alright, guess that some of you might be in a whirlpool of thoughts about the council right now.
So, it's high time we do some reflection shall we? :D Believe many of you have been busy with life and all but now, it's alrdy the hols so let's all turn our attention(FULLY) t the council ok!! :)
Know that deep down within our hearts, there's still a part of us who knows clearly how much Mr cheong has done for us regardless of how horrendous/atrocious we've been. Also, we know that most of the time he's been keeping one eye opened & the other closed when he sees us misbehaving or whatsoever. But now, enough's enough. Time to look back into the past few months and see what has the council actually done for the school? Was there any major difference at all? /:
Now that we've analysed the problem, we'll need to work in unity, hand in hand, side by side, together. Have faith that we'll be able to change things and i'm sure things will turn out just fine, back to the way it was where we all started our journey. (the bonds we had during hlc'o7!)
However, others may ask : What's the point in rebuilding/restoring it when some of us are not even being appreciated? No one cares for our existence at all, why should we bother?
Alright then, here's something.
Ask yourself if you've ever tried to blend in or contribute, willing to make a difference? How much effort you've put in, and whether were you judging people through tinted glasses? Ask and think, search & dig way downnn into your heart for the truth. Were you really so ever-ready to make the difference or was it just empty talk over and over again? l:
People say, action speaks louder than words. Instead of accusing & always finding fault with others, why not ask yourself, have I done enough? What stops me from doing more? Where have i gone wrong? Am i really giving my best at all? Well, even if you've tried but failed for countless times, it's alright to try again, success is attained from infinite amount of failures. All you've got to do is learn to pick yourself up! :)
Don't think about the harvest that you'll get after all the hard work, just envision your goals, and wok towards it. It's not about what you're gonna gain from all these, it's about the learning process. Yet, it is also not about taking, but giving all that you can to the fullest. There won't even be a need for you to think about how fruitful your harvest will be. :)
All of us have a part to play. In order to make th council work, start first by respecting yourself, the council members and the school. Recall what Lye and the facils have taught us and reinforce the values! Prove to us that we didn't undergo all those trainings in vain. Do your best to service the school (willingly) and soon, you'll find yourself discovering many different sides of life and experiences and really, at the end of the day, you'll thank yourself for realising th fact that you made the right choice. Then again, if really you think that all these serve too much for you to handle, it's alright to opt out, no one will blame you. Life's about choices, so you just have to make a firm decision and go towards the direction that you believe in. :D
And Mr cheong, thankyou for your efforts that you've been giving! :D THANKS! We know you'll forever be in-charge of us right! Though, it's about time we leaders took control. :)
Tidbits for the upcoming camp and future leadership in YOU :D
1) No one's perfect, accept them for who & what they are. God made each and everyone diffrent, & that's what makes us special. Don't complain about other's flaws and look at yourself instead.
2) Voice out! :D if you have any comments/suggestions/observations that you'd like to share, don't be afraid to voice out ! Who knows that maybe that's just the statement everyone's been looking for and ta-da! You'll make the difference! :) It only takes one to start the ball rolling. Allow others to feel you and the best way is to communicate through honest feedback. that's why the word is there : feedback. Don't even wait till when things start to fall apart/crumble and then voice out, It'll be too late. Be open and frank! Like they say, the early bird catches the worm y'know. ;) So, have courage !
3) Be humble. Be sensitive to your feelings and others around you. Don't give attitudes and know that the choice of words you use might hurt the other party so beware of your tone. Ups and downs, downs and ups, you wouldn't know that one day you might need to lean on one of us. Thus, be nice !
4) The camp will arrive soon before you know it, 16-18june. Only 3 days and it'll be over in the blink of an eye, take the 3 days to really commit yourself and learn. Espescially the young ones and the new recruits. Guide them along and project the right examples. Let them feel the spirit and bonding within the council. Pull those who've sidetracked along the way back into the correct lane. Help one another whole-heartedly. & don't take things for granted and only realise how precious they are when they're gone. (:
p/s : not good with words thus v sorry if the entry sounds offensive but really hope things will take a better turn in time to come. lastly, shall end the entry with something that came across recently :
Believe and Succeed
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it's the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,"i will try and try again tomorrow." Only a single spark is needed to create a huge bonfire!
Previous Post
Dearest leaders,
This is regarding my previous post dated 26 May 08
Firstly, i am NOT quitting the HLC. I am assign to develop the student leadership in our school and I will put my BEST in whatever time I can allocate to it. Let me clarify this statement before anyone jumps into conclusion again. We all have our commitments in life and different things take different priority in our life at different times. I have Scouts, Prefectorial Board, HLC, my students and my family among the things and I am sure you too. We just need to time manage with the best of our abilities.
As mention in my previous post, most of you had provided me with valuable feedback for the improvement of the council. I had since discussed with Mrs Cheng and will be meeting the school management next week to put forth OUR suggestions.
Rest assured I am not abandoning ship....It's just that i'm a person who "wear my heart on my shoulder". I feel that if REALLY you reflect through and decided you are not willing to help the school whole-heartily then I thank you for your service.
I'll be in school till 9 June so if you need to talk to me about the camp/HLC do look for me in the staff room. You can call/msg me too since most of you had my number. On the 9 to 18 i'll be attending the Scout camp follow by the HLC camp so won't be available.
Happy Holiday

HLC CAMP I
HLC Camp I (bottle tree - Yishun)
Date : 16 to 18 June
Start Time : 0730am
End Time : 1230pm
All leaders selected for the camp please report to school in your PE attire. I require your t-shirt size for the camp t-shirt so kindly email me at mucheong@gmail.com.
There has been some pull-out from the camp by the new participants because of other committment in their own CCA. I accepted their choice and had since look for replacement. As in all things, I never like to force people into doing things that they are not committed to.
I am submitting a proposal to change certain things in the council to Mrs Cheng this week. Some are through my personal experiences/observations and some through your honest comments at the feedback session. If you feel that being in the council and serving the school is not your cup of tea, I appeal to you to step down as a council member now.
I need a core group of dedicated leaders to help me churn out several upcoming programs in sememster 2 and in 2009. Being a leader i expect you to set the RIGHT EXAMPLES for your school mates. If you feel that you doesn't fit the bill you can decline the invitation to the camp this week.
I giving my last burst of fire to make things work. If I fail to achieve it by next year, I will step down and let someone better take over.

Ok, scrap the last post, here is something new
Ok, just forget the last post. The Round 2 thing is off. However I will still need HLC and prefects to come back on Thursday to have a trial run of the games for the prefect's camp anyway. So yes, I still need people but the event has changed. The ICs are still the same so you can still contact them. Aright, that should be about all. Chosen 1...signing off...

Chosen 1 here again...i need help...
Hi guys, I need a little help for my Sec 1 prefects recruitment. Ok, in the past week, they have gone through an interview and we feel they will be needing a round 2. As we have a lot of people, we are going to narrow people down to 40 before putting them through round 2. Now round 2 is a little interesting, and I bet you guys will love to do it. Basically, it will be a test for the Sec 1's whether they are capable. In short, this is a practical session. I will need HLC members act as normal students so that these new guys can 'practise' and of course, you guys can play with them a little. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN SCARE THE HELL OUT OF THEM AND BECOME SUPER GANGSTER! Definitely, we will give a briefing of what to do when we have confirmed hwo is to come. We need about 20 people for both days. Right now, the people in charge are:
Zhe Hao: Overall IC
Velda: Wed IC
Wenda : Thurs IC
They will be approaching you to put your names down for these 2 days. The overall IC would be Zhe Hao as the rest of the Sec 3 DHs are still in Vietnam. Poor guy...
Anyways, will update constantly on what will be going on. Thanks.

Souvenir Payment - The Chosen 1
Hi all, we will be buying a souvenir for Mr Cheong as he has put in a lot of effort to make sure our investiture went on smoothly. Besides, he has been working very hard ever since the start of the year.
Therefore, I will need you guys to contribute $1 to the buying of the souvenir. The money will be collected by Yu Chuan, a sec 4 guy who is the HLC treasurer. Will update more about this soon.

Investiture update 2
1) Total 10 schools confirmed their attendance. We might have more if some decided to turn up w/o informing.
2) I decided that ONLY those performing on stage will wear 'COSTUME' during the performance. The rest will wear the no 1 or uniform to perform.
3) Band had promised to supply 10 sets of blazer on monday. Those w/o blazer/skirt/pants yet will receive on monday. However do try to get your own white pants and skirt just in case the band cannot fulfil their promise. I will bring my wife's shoes and white skirt just in case not enough. If after all this we still don't have enough, i apologise that those w/o the full set will follow the sec 2 to get your badge/tie pin. A thousand apologises.
4) I will be printing the programme sheet and excuse letter on monday morning. Excuse letter will pass to you in class cos i need Mr Chia to sign. During your recess, can i have some volunteer to help fold the programme sheet and to help insert the printout into the sovenier to our guest?
Please pass the message around. Thanks.

Investiture
Dearest Leaders,
Thought i just drop a note as your investiture draws nearer and nearer.
When
When is the dateline i need to get the things ready?
When is the rehearsal?
When is the individual event gonna start and end?
Where
Where is the leaders' position during the performance/investiture?
Where do we place our equipment?
Why
Why are we doing all this?
Why is it important to stick to the dateline?
Why it happen or need to change?
How
How long is each event?
How to I get enough people to help?
How can I ensure my part of the job is completed?
How can i improve on my part of the job?
These are just SOME of the MANY questions that you should be thinking through when you organise anything. Do not wait till it's too late and "explain" why things are not done. Think and plan it through. ENLIST OTHERS TO HELP if you cannot cope.
Lastly i wishes all leaders a "fruitful" Ang Bao collecting Lunar New Year.

2. Hairspray, You can’t stop the beat – Julia, Andrew
3. HSM, All for one (4:09) – Jodi, Kelly
Logistics – Fadly, Bryan
Just briefly go through the jobs of the ICs. Shi Min would be the overall IC and that means the decisions are made by her…not me. Yisin would be doing the invitation card which we would send to the other schools. Velda would be in charge of making a souvenir that we would present to our guests on that day. Jermaine would be in charge of the programme sheet, the little pamphlet that would be given to everyone on that day that has all our names in it. Jodi would be the overall in charge of the program. The people in the sub-performances would be Chun Fai, Xiao Li, Julia Tay, Andrew, Jodi and Kelly. Jodi would be briefing these people on what to do and what to achieve by a certain date. All these would be settled in the future posts. Finally, Fadly and myself would be running the logistics so that we see that the things that we need and get it.
The programme is up to us but the things before the programme like the presentation of badges and the entry of all HLC and prefects into the hall would more or less be decided by Mr Cheong or the exco or both. That is not the worry now. Right now, I will briefly go through the programme that would take place. We plan to start it around 145. This is the rough outline.
We’d like to invite the fellas from wadever school to come up and receive a souvenirs…blah blah blah…
1.45 – 1.46 à conversation between XH and YC
XH enters stage right and sits on a sofa (located stage left) and picks up a remote
YC comes from stage left and snatch the remote and fight over it
A button is accidentally pressed (Hairspray music starts playing)
1.46 – 1.52 à Hairspray
20 people form both sides of the stage would enter
singing and dancing (chorography by Vanessa Ng)
1.52 – 1.53 à curtain closes
XH and YC commentary and fighting again (band equipment must be brought out in this period)
1.53 – 1.56 à Band
Elijah, Uthara, Berry and Cheri will be playing their song
1.56 – 1.57 à XH and YC
(band equip shifts away)
curtain closes and XH and YC comments on band
XH and YC converse and says ALL FOR ONE
1.57 – 2.03 à finale
(dancers need to change to bright coloured clothes with a summer theme)
the song will be playing before people come in
people will run in from side of hall and the also down the middle
those who were in hairspray and band will come in after 3 minutes or so and join the finale on the floor
last verse: everyone shouts ALL FOR ONE WOOOOO
everyone would then run up the stage and the curtain closes

We have not decided, if you are unhappy with where u are, please find someone from the other group that u can do a mutual swap and post a comment to this post. Yes, only for HSM, we shall be wearing bright clothes, the others who are doing before will be wearing blazers or school uniform throughout. Remember, theme is summer. Please ar…remember, it is an American summer, not and Indian summer. I don’t wanna see any joker come out on that day half naked with a turban and an Indian sarong around his waist carrying a broom and shouting ALL FOR ONE. Oh no. Please be reminded about the rehearsal dates; 12, 14, 21, 22. Other than that, that should be about it.
Thanks, Chosen1.

Do ponder how the HLC can develope on from this good start. The sec 1 orientation is not a one off event. It's the platform for us to continue influencing the school to a better place for all. In the coming weeks i will be meeting the individual Exco Sub-com to discuss our plan for the year.
The Exco had discuss last saturday about our Investiture and they will need your help to make the event an memorable one for all. A piece of good news is that Mr Lye and his team might be coming for the Investiture.
